Here are we one magical moment
Such is the stuff from
where dreams are woven
Morning broke with the classic student tableau: my hand repeatedly hitting snooze on my phone’s alarm. I had intended to start my day bright and early with a bowl of Scottish porridge and plenty of time to plan outfits, fix my hair and pack my bag. Unbelievably, this was made for school. We got the assignment for our illustration class to make a comic book cover for an existing superhero (antihero in my case), and anyone who’s known me for long knows that Spawn has a very special place in my heart, thanks to Captainmac :) I’m sure this is nowhere near the last time he finds his way into my work.
So here’s the thing: I know my love of Spawn can be classified as unusual. He’s not the most popular, his books aren’t the best written, his franchise hasn’t really lasted as well as others. But he’s my favourite comic book character of all time. And I’ll never forget the first time Lily drew him for me back in High School. It really remains a moment in my memory where suddenly I was completely happy with who I was. Spawn remains an inexplicable cornerstone in our friendship, and it’s an incredibly nostalgic honour to see him so beautifully rendered in her art college assignment.
